BRIDGE WEEKEND

Thirty two Club members and guests spent a an excellent Bridge Weekend at the very well appointed Portsmouth Marriott Hotel enjoying the sumptuous rooms, good meals and excellent leisure facilities of the hotel with good serious but friendly bridge in the Heritage Suite which proved ideal for bridge. Members wish to return!
In down time members explored Portsmouth including HMS’S Mary Rose, Victory and Warrior, shopped at the Gunwharf Keys Outlet Centre, the Birthplace of Charles Dickens, climbed (by lift) the new Spinnaker Tower with panoramic views of Portsmouth Harbour and the nearby coasts whilst boosting the profits of local hostelries at lunchtime.
The event started with a Reception to celebrate the recent Golden Wedding Anniversary of Dot and George. The Club were pleased to welcome Geoff Gray, our Secretary, to his first Weekend.
The Team Competition for the Staley Nicholls Memorial Weekend Cup was won the third time – the first pair to achieve - this by Diana and John Finnamore on this occasion partnered by Ann Paris and John Lyon-Maris who was attending his first Sobell Weekend.
Margaret Toscani and Jack Rawlings had a particularly successful weekend being 1st on Friday, 2nd on Saturday and 3rd in the Team Event.

2nd North/South Jack Rawlings and Margaret Toscani - 55.58%
1st East/West Joanna May and Adrienne Finch - 60.94%
2nd East/West Jacquie North and Geoff Gray - 56.92%
Sunday Teams: -
1st Ann Paris, John Lyon Maris, Diana and John Finnamore – 78 points
2nd Maureen Avins, Hazel Hart, Jacquie North and Geoff Gray – 45 points.

This was the first time I have been on one of these weekends away, and it was marvellous. Thanks very much to the team, Joan, Gerald and George, for such a well-organised and pleasant event.
