JOY AND TOM CELEBRATE THEIR SIXTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY!
ETHEL AND JOAN SWEEP THE BOARD!
Highlight on the social side of the latest Club Weekend was a Champagne Reception given by Joy and Tom Woodgate to mark their recent 65th - Blue Sapphire - Wedding Anniversary when the forty Club members and four guests toasted the happy couple’s wonderful achievement and wished them many more happy anniversaries.
Members enjoyed five sessions of good competitive but friendly bridge at the excellent Cheltenham Thistle Hotel and when ‘off duty’ enjoyed the many attractions nearby, the Cotswold countryside, the shops of Cheltenham and the fine leisure centre at the Hotel.
The Weekenders welcomed Sally Crosher and Patsy Parr to their first Weekend together with guests Brenda and Peter Pratt who had come in at the last moment when – sadly – Isobel and Gerald Williams were unable to attend. Both pairs marked their first attendance by – appropriately at Cheltenham – making the Winners Enclosure.
Ethel Broughton and Joan Prior showed that experience and skill counts buy winning all three competitions, Ethel following Diana and John Finnamore to become the third person to win the Stanley Nicholls Memorial Weekend Cup for the team event for the third time.
Club funds benefited by £595:00 as a result of the Weekend.
