BRIDGE WEEKENDS
11May to 14 May 2007
Hilton Hotel, Warwick
Celebrations at Warwick as Softleigh, Softleigh does it!
After last years successful Bridge Weekend at Hilton Warwick 28 members and six guests of the Club again spent a most enjoyable Weekend at the same location. Those attending enjoyed the first class hotel and leisure facilities and in down time enjoyed visits to Warwick, Stratford, Coventry and the Cathedral not to mention taking lunch at local hostelries.
Making their first appearance on a Club Weekend were members Alma Gent, and sisters Lynne Mathys and Jean Joseph. Guest Keith Bolton was also a first time attendee. Regulars were delighted that Isobel Williams and Carl Goldsmith with their spouses were able to return to the Weekend scene after illness.
On Sunday 13th May members joined Ruth Allenby in celebrating the 89th Birthday of her mother, Margot and enjoyed tea and her Birthday cake after Margot had performed the traditional ritual of blowing out the candles. A small token to acknowledge the event was given to Margot on behalf of the Weekenders.

Five good sessions of bridge were played over the weekend with Elaine Softleigh and Keith Bolton starring in winning duplicate bridge as east / west on Friday evening with an excellent 69..75% - and being the best of 17 pairs in a Howell duplicate competition over 34 boards on Sunday.
In the Team Competition Diana and John Finnamore won the Stanley Nicholls Memorial Weekend Trophy for Teams for the fourth time partnered on this occasion by Pat Allard and Joan Knaggs both delighted to win the trophy for the first time particularly as both were very early members of the Club when Stan (with others) was getting the Club up and running. Ethel Broughton also a three time winner had, on this occasion, to settle for second place, her team mates on this occasion being Joan Prior, Lynne Mathys, and Jean Joseph.
Prizes were presented by Club Vice President Joan Prior. The Weekend added £510 to Club Funds.
