BRIDGE WEEKENDS

Cliffeside Hotel, Bournemouth
FINE WEATHER AND FINE BRIDGE AT BOURNEMOUTH
Returning to Bournemouth for the first time for two years 35 Club members and two guests enjoyed three days fine weather and three competitions in five sessions of bridge at The Cliffeside Hotel situate on the East Overcliff Drive. Well looked after by hotel staff, members enjoyed the views from the hotel of the coast from the Needles on the Isle of White to Old Harry Rocks at Studland and sunbathed on the terrace. In ‘down time’ those attending enjoyed the facilities of this thriving seaside resort and those of nearby Poole taking full advantage of the ‘noddy’ trains there and at Hengistbury Head and the ferries plying the Channel and Christchurch Harbour. The open top bus tours were also popular.
First timers on a Club Weekend were Hazel Jessen and Martin Isham whilst members Diane and John Finnamore, now resident in Poole joined us for our Friday and Saturday sessions. Diana and John took the East West prize for the Friday session with Joan Prior and Elaine Softleigh winning as North/South. Saturdays 19 pairs, one winner, Howell pairs went to Dot and George Howlett whilst the Stanley Nicholls Memorial Weekend Trophy on Sunday was won by Ulla and Ahmad Mallick – first time winners of the trophy and team mates Maureen Avins and Hazel Hart winning for the third time. The trophy was given to the Club by Stan’s son in honour and memory of Stan our first Chairman and one of the co-founders of the Club.
Prizes were presented by Isobel Williams, the non playing member of our party and a stalwart of Club Weekends. The Weekend added about £480 to Club Funds.
