BRIDGE WEEKENDS

Hilton Hotel, Swindon
NEWCOMERS SHINE AT SWINDON WEEKEND.
34 members and 2 guests enjoyed excellent bridge in five sessions and three competitions on the Club’s ninth visit to the well appointed Hilton Hotel, Swindon. Major honours were taken by Weekend newcomers Tess Alexander and Tony Shields who achieved two second places and together with Dot and George Howlett won the team event – The Stanley Nicholls Memorial Weekend Trophy – the latter for the second time at this venue. The Acting Club Chairman Doug Edmonds with wife, Anne also attending their first Weekend shone too almost matching the achievement of Tess and Tony with a magnificent 67.71% and first place in Friday duplicate play and second place with Pat and Bill Graham in the Team Event. A very close Howell Duplicate event – four pairs within 2% at the top - on Saturday ended with Maureen Avins and Hazel Hart – members living in Bournemouth – proving the best of 18 pairs.
Prizes were present by Acting Chairman Doug with Vice President Joan Prior presenting Doug with his own prize.
In down time members enjoyed the excellent leisure facilities and the excellent fare provided by the Hotel, the beautiful surrounding countryside whilst, as ever, the ladies enjoyed The Outlet Centre shopping.

Friday Duplicate Pairs ( Mitchell)
1st East/West – Shirley and Michael Tucker – 63.54%
1st North/South - Anne and Doug Edmonds – 67.71% who with Pat and Bill Graham when finishing second in team event with 32 points.
Saturday Duplicate Pairs (Howell)
Ist – Maureen Avins and Hazel Hart – 56.80%
2nd – Tess Alexander and Tony Shields – 55.70% who with teamates Dot and George Howlett when winning the team event with 45 points.
3rd – Ruth Allenby and Muriel Feldman – 55.47%
4th – Helen and Mark Samuels – 55.15 %
.
Tradition decrees that no more than one prize may be won by one individual at a Weekend. The prize passes to the next position. Other prizewinners were:-
