BRIDGE WEEKENDS
16 May to 19 May 2008
Hilton Hotel, Warwick
GOOD WEATHER AND ODD NUMBERS BUT GOOD BRIDGE AT WARWICK.
The Clubs third Weekend at Warwick (16th 19th May) met with the best weather experienced there with members enjoying Warwick and the National Trust property at Charlecote House as well as excellent bridge. The facilities provided by the Hilton Hotel were excellent with staff being very helpful and with excellent meals. Some members enjoyed the facilities of the Red Lion at Long Compton en route.
Illness of a member expected meant a reduction of numbers to the awkward 29 but
goodwill all round meant that this was not a problem. The three first attenders at a Club Weekend all reached the Winners Enclosure.
Friday evenings session played with a Double Hesitation Mitchell one winner movement resulted in the new partnership of Ruby Stiles and John Gwilt winning with 60.19% with Betty Blundell and Joan Knaggs just behind on 59.26%.
The Saturday Duplicate Competition saw Shirley Tucker partnered by George Howlett (afternoon) and Michael Tucker (evening) take first place North/South with
55,48% with Joan Prior and Elaine Softleigh taking the East/West prize at 56.43%
Second N/S were Dorothy and Guy Gimpel (53.33%) with Weekend stalwarts
Irene Willis and Thelma Charlton taking second E/W with 55.0% (George Howlett
partnering Irene for the evening session.)
The Fifteenth running of the Stanley Nicholls Trophy for teams which recalls the tremendous input to the Club and particularly to the Weekends of first Chairman and co-founder of the Club was won by newcomers Lesley Snuggs and Sue Gil with
Margaret and Carl Goldsmith, winners for the third time score +52 - with four time
winners Diana and John Finnamore partnered by Elaine and Joan were +27.
Consolation for Michael Tucker came with the 2 prize, the last player to take a trick with a two.
Weekenders next meet at Bournemouth in September.
